Baby Will

Things are going smoothly at the Tanner house. Will is starting to get used to us and we are getting used to him. There are still times when we look at him and say "wow, we have a baby!". But I guess that's natural.

We had alot of exciting firsts this week. On Monday Will had his first non-family visitor. My friend Barb came over for lunch. Will slept for the entire time until it was time for Barb to leave and then he got really cranky. Either it was time to eat or he was sad to see Barb leave. Tuesday was Will's first doctor appointment and he did wonderful! I think he really liked looking into all of the bright lights in the room. His weight is up to 8 lbs 1 oz. He's quite the eater! Wednesday night was his first bath. We've been giving him sponge baths, but the doctor said everything looked good so it was time to dunk him. He seemed to enjoy it! On Friday two of my friends from swim class are coming over for the afternoon. One of the girls has a 2 month old daughter so I guess that would classify as Will's first playdate. So exciting! Grandma and Grandpa Tanner are coming to visit this weekend.

Automatic sprinkler

My friend Katie sent Will a cute onesie with the phrase "automatic sprinkler" on it. We put it on him today under one of his sleepers even though David thought we were jinxing ourselves by having him wear it. We have heard all the warnings about baby boys peeing during diaper changes, but haven't experienced that yet....until today! We were changing him this afternoon and all of a sudden something started running down his leg. It took me a minute to figure out what was happening as David is yelling "he's peeing, he's peeing". So thanks, Katie, for the onesie and the experience of being peed on :)

We survived our first weekend at home! My parents were here Thursday thru Saturday and David's parnets were here Friday-Sunday. It was so fun to see them interacting with Will. They are all going to be wonderful grandparents (even my dad held Will!). It was nice to have some extra hands to help with laundry, cooking and taking care of Will. But I'm also excited to be on our own (ask me on Tuesday if I still feel that way!). It's so hard to believe that just 4 days ago, Will was inside me. I just can't get over that concept. We are overjoyed with being parents and excited about what that entales.

William David

We are happy to announce that our son William David was born January 7, 2009 at 10:17am! He weighed 7lbs 10 ozs, and is 20 in long.
I started having contractions at 4am on Tuesday. They lasted a few hours but were never regular so we didn't go to the hospital. After I made David leave the house and go to work, the contractions pretty much stopped. My dear friend Sarah suggested that I bounce on an exercise ball to help with contractions, so I spent the afternoon bouncing. At 1:30am on Wednesday I started having contractions that were 5 minutes apart, so David and I packed up and went to the hospital at 2:30am. We got admitted and all checked out, and disovered I was 6cm by 3am, and was given an epidural right away. My contractions weren't too painful but let me just say the epidural was a god send! David and I 'rested' from 3am to 8am. I say 'rested' because somebody was in our room checking on me every 15 minutes so I really didn't get any sleep. I started pushing around 8:30 and baby Will was born at 10:17am. They offered me a mirror to watch the event, but I declined. David did witness the event, and cut the cord. It was a little overwhelming having Will put on my chest and being told he was my son, but we were very excited to meet him. Especially since he was 6 days late.
Our first day/night as a family was good. We are learning how to be parents. He's really adorable, and we just love him. Both sets of grandparents are visiting us this weekend so we will have lots of help (especially with cooking!). Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. It's a total cliche, but I can't really imagine loving anyone more than Will. He's perfect!
I'll post pictures after this weekend--I'm sure the grandparents will take at least one or two :-)

Eviction notice

Baby Will has eviction papers for Jan 8 at 8am unless he decides to come earlier. I'm hoping he comes earlier as Jan 8 is the National Championship and he won't be able to wear his OU onesie if he's in the hospital. (it's okay to roll your eyes at that reason. My mom said that's dumb too.)
